Sunday, November 4, 2018: Plans

T and have talked about a world cruise for the past 30 years. Our plan was to do it to celebrate our 50th anniversary. That would have been in 2023. We did not make it to our 50th so I decided the time was right to fulfill our plan.

Maxine booked this Silver Seas cruise for me in March of 2018. The trip is 140 days long, departing from Fort Lauderdale and ending in Amsterdam, They say the cruise will visit 62 ports in 32 countries, including a stop in Antarctica.

The cruise is actually made up of nine separate back to back segments. Anyone can join me for any specific segment.

This will be my first cruise on Silver Seas. They have a good reputation as a premium line. The ship is the Whisper and I currently have a Veranda 2 suite (#709). The suite is not very large (345 sq ft which includes a 60 sq ft veranda). When I booked, I was interested in the next level up, the Medallion Suite (521 sq ft with 81 sq ft veranda and can accommodate three guests), but there are only two of those suites and they were already booked. So, Maxine put me on a waiting list. In June, I started having reservations and asked Maxine if the next level, a Silver Suite (700 sq ft, 100 sq ft veranda), was available. There are thirteen of these, but they were all booked as well. So, I'm on that wait list as well.

The ship was built in 2001 and accomadates 382 guests with a crew of 302.
